 Penacook Girl Scouting

Sponsorship: United Church of Penacook is a proud sponsor of Penacook Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Troop #212. Troop sponsorship is a voluntary association on behalf of a group of girls in a community, to insure that all girls regardless of race, creed, national origin, handicap or socio-economical factors have an opportunity to participate in Girl Scouting.

2008 Planned Events:
  • Favors were made for the January and February Penacook Senior Center's luncheons.
  • Cookie orders were taken in January and should be delivered in mid-February. Look for cookie booths in area stores in February and March.
  • The Older Girl Patrol is planning a trip to New York City for Memorial Day Weekend and will be selling cookies to raise money for this trip.
  • The Younger Girl Patrol is starting to work on the "Once Upon a Story" Interest Project badge and would like to visit Louisa May Alcott's House in the spring.
  • Girl Scout Sunday is March 9.

2007 Activity: Members of the troop attended the Seacoast Cadette/Senior Girl Conference in Portsmouth and cheered on walkers at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Concord. On October 21, the troop hosted a Program Aide training, the first of Swift Water Council's leadership trainings for girls, at the church. The Older Girl Patrol attended the "It's Your Life...Take Charge!" Leadership Conference in Concord in November. Plans are being finalized for the Older Girl Patrol's trip to New York City in spring of 2008.

Giving Back: Over the years, the Girl Scouts have supported the UCP Food Pantry with donations and the UCP Soup Kitchen with workers. The girls have participated in Scouting for Food with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, which benefits the church’s food shelves. For the last two years, the girls have made the tags for the Gift Box Project, and make favors for the Penacook Senior Center luncheons. We celebrate Girl Scout Sunday with the congregation each year in March.

A Historical Perspective: In the Fall of 2000, Girl Scouting was brought back to the United Church of Penacook when Cheryl Stinson asked the church to be the Sponsoring Organization for a new Penacook Brownie Girl Scout troop. At various times over the past seven years, the church’s Sponsorship has included Daisy Girl Scout Troop #2995 (for kindergarten-age girls), Brownie Girl Scout Troop #858 (for girls in grades 1-3), Junior Girl Scout Troop #285 (for girls in grades 4-6), and Cadette Girl Scout Troop (now Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Troop) #212. Currently Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Troop #212 (for girls in grades 6-12) is the only troop meeting at the Church during the 2007-2008 year.

If you or someone you know would be interested in joining the Cadette/Senior Troop* in Penacook, please contact Cheryl Stinson at 753-4072 for more information.

Girl Scouts . . . . Where Girls Grow Strong!
The Girl Scout Promise The Girl Scout Law
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
