 Our History

In 1953 The First Baptist Church and the Penacook Congregational Church united to form one fellowship governed by one set of bylaws. The two independent churches had separately served the village of Penacook for over a hundred years. In June of 1953 the United Church of Penacook was legally incorporated.

Both church buildings were used until 1954 when the membership voted to use the former First Baptist Church, our current home on Merrimack Street, exclusively. Erected in 1858, its beautiful, illuminated spire rises up over the village of Penacook and serves as a town landmark. According to the architects, the basic style of this building is Greek Revival. The top of the spire around the bell tower is more Baroque and the arches over the windows are Romanesque.

Today this fellowship continues to grow and flourish. Our facilities include a sanctuary with seating for 300 people. The large fellowship hall is used for various activities including Sunday School, the soup kitchen, and church suppers. It also serves the needs of our local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops and other community services.

To continue these services to the community, we must renovate and improve our facilities.
